PROJECT PREFLIGHT
FOR COLLEGE WOMEN — READ BEFORE EVERY NIGHT OUT
AVIATION-GRADED SAFETY SYSTEMCapt. Robert Polakoski

You are the pilot.

Agency is the capability to assess, decide, and change the outcome — not a feeling.

Act
Four Threat Levels
  • 1Routine — Note exits, vary your route.
  • 2Warning — Move to people & light, tell a friend.
  • 3Critical — Do not reason — act, make noise.
  • 4Impact — Fight, create distance, call 911.
The Flight Deck
  • Expectation Bias

You see what you expect — not what’s real.

  • Unsafe Condition

    Environments that quietly compound risk.

  • Situational Awareness

Observe | Orient | Decide | Act. Loop it.

Personal Flight Rules

Alcohol degrades every instrument you carry. Follow these Personal Flight Rules.

  • 1Set your limit before you arrive — write it down.
  • 2Never accept a drink you didn’t watch being poured.
  • 3Designate a Co-Pilot who stays sober.
  • 4Cockpit Scan every 30 min: How do I feel? Where are my friends?
  • 5Lock transport home before you leave.
  • 6Honor your Go / No-Go — leave if your gut says leave.
  • If Something Feels Off
    • Gut says leave — leave. No explanation required.
    • Head to people and light, not a quieter exit.
    • Text your Co-Pilot your live location.
    • Report the moment you’re safe — memory fades fast.
    Act First
    • Act first. Self-blame later is not a step.
    • Get to safety — distance beats distance fights.
    • Call campus security & your Co-Pilot.
    • Preserve evidence, seek a SANE nurse.
    CALL 911

"Safety isn’t luck. It’s a decision you make before you ever leave your dorm."
